President Stephen Mayo has a BA in
Business Management from Eastern Michigan University and a 4-year major
in Russian Language from Syracuse University. He has spent 27 years in
telecommunications in a diverse mix of companies.
Steve spent four years in the US Air Force as a
Russian linguist and ten years with Conrail as a telecommunications
analyst. He then joined Kelly Services, Inc. and later, Consumers Power
Company where he directed large-scale, telecommunications projects.
In 1984 Steve joined the University of Michigan to build the largest,
single-site telecommunications company in the country, recabling all
three campuses (300+ buildings) and installing 13 telephone central
offices and remote switching centers. He was responsible for
telecommunications marketing, vendor and government relations, customer
service, and products and services for the students, faculty, and staff.
During this time he also served as Vice President of the Michigan
Collegiate Telecommunications Association providing direction on
networking and distance learning for U of M and the other 60+ member
colleges.
In 1996 Steve joined CampusLink Communications
Systems, Inc. as Chief Operating Officer during the company's' second
year (with 9 colleges). He relocated the company to Ann Arbor, Michigan
from Stamford, Ct. and built a new team to move the company forward.
Steve was responsible for all operations of the company, which provides
turnkey information technology systems to colleges and universities.
This includes the design, construction, and implementation of a fiber,
copper, and coax infrastructure, voice systems, data networks, private
cable TV, and billing and ongoing customer support. CampusLink currently
provides ongoing system management to more than 40 colleges and private
student housing complexes throughout the U.S. CampusLink was acquired by
PaeTec Communications of Rochester, NY in 1999.
In 1998 Steve created Inteleconnect, Inc. to focus
on technology solutions for residential communities, businesses and
commercial developments. Steve has signed a number of strategic
alliances to bring full-spectrum technology expertise together to define
and implement next generation telecommunications services.
